Have Hiccups Or Other Muscle Spasms? Try Cannabis!

Weird to admit, but I’ve been wanting to write about this for a long time! For years growing up, I tried to find ways to get rid of the hiccups…whether it was drinking water upside down at the sink (super awkward looking!), holding my breath repeatedly for as many times as I could, having someone scare me, which usually meant I was expecting it so was never scared, etc.

It wasn’t until later in life when I would realize that yes, AGAIN….cannabis would score another win here!  I found that cannabis was incredibly effective with muscle spasms, but for myself, mainly high-CBD vaporized or tincture-based solutions were most effective when dealing with hiccups.

This is all due to the fact that cannabis has, in general, been highly linked to assist with pain, inflammation, muscle spasms, etc.

So one day during a very annoying and persistent hiccup-fit, I decided to give cannabis a try due to it’s calming properties dealing with muscle spasms…and as with just about everything else I’ve tried with cannabis so far, I’m thankful I did!

For myself as mentioned already, high-THC cannabis doesn’t appear to usually assist with my muscle spasms, or at least I haven’t been able to find a high-THC strain so far that can.

Balanced or high-CBD strains however have shown to be VERY effective for my hiccup-fits! Specifically, I think hemp products are too low of THC, and products that have more THC than a 1:1 ratio may be too high in THC to be effective, but I found that a high-CBD ratio between 2:1 and 20:1 has been incredibly effective for these moments, and I’ve leaned on those ratios ever since I realized the effectiveness of them.

Tinctures that are alcohol-based tend to shoot faster into the bloodstream when holding the liquid under your tongue, so I tend to prefer this mode opposed to an oil-based method that tends to hit a little bit slower.  However, some may say that the alcohol “burns” a bit, which the oil-based tincture is very “smooth” and you almost don’t feel (it literally just tastes like coconut oil).

Other than that, if I have a bad case of the hiccups and don’t have one of these options handy, I do get a bit annoyed since drinking an entire glass of water upside-down (option #2!) sometimes isn’t as effective, and when that happens, I need to drink more water! That means more bathroom breaks as well, which is just another inconvenience for my day.😳😳😳

Not the worst thing in the world to deal with, but if any of you find that you get a case of the hiccups or other types of spasms easily, don’t rule out a high-CBD cannabis option as a possible effective solution!

Let me know what you think! Random topic for sure, but helpful! Otherwise, thanks for reading, reach out with any questions at thecannabisc@gmail.com, and looking forward to another episode and blog writing soon!
